As such, training does not include gradings or the full training syllabus needed for gradings. The class focuses on essential principles, skills and techniques for ordinary people in normal daily life. The original system was created by the then Chief of the Tokyo Police Force in Japan based on his knowledge of Jiu Jitsu and Shorinji Kempo. Its nickname was Shorinji Kempo Jiu Jitsu, or Shorinji Kan for short. Nowadays in Australia it has been renamed to Shorinji Kempo Karate. During its spread from Japan to Australia to England and now Finland, the core system has since been tempered and augmented with other martial arts skills and modern psychology, security and risk management expertise.

Unlike traditional gym workouts, every exercise and technique has functional purpose—developing the kind of mobile strength, coordination, and endurance needed for real-world applications. This is not a combat sport training session, neither kickboxing nor MMA. It is however, an intense training session using the same techniques skills as they are needed for self-defense purposes. The class can be used as a stand-alone training but, was intended and is best used as a complimentary supplement to the regular self-defence training.   • Kyusho Study Group (Workshop)

    Kyusho Study Group is a monthly workshop (1.5hrs) for the study of vital points for martial arts (self-defense) and health. Kyusho is 'pointing the way' in the art of striking or manipulating vital points on the body for both self-defense (martial) and health purposes. However, unlike TCM, it is less about pinpricking energy meridians and more about deeper anatomical structures that can be accessed at various points around the body. No 'Cultural Mumbo Jumbo!' We use western science-based anatomy and biological knowledge to make it easier to understand what we are doing and how it works. The effects can be controlled and remedied, and so the techniques can be practiced in a responsible manner that allows a dead art, long since consigned to legends and myth, back to life. We follow and teach the system of Kyusho International (KI), arguably the foremost authority on the subject and a reputable organization worldwide with decades of medical research on the subject.
