Don't Burn Out, Break Out!

A few years ago I was working intensely on a systems development project for several months. I worked 10 to 12 hours a day for at least 5 days a week and also many hours at weekends for a 24/ work marathon. Sound even a little bit familiar?
The Burn Out
Modern working life can be a challenge at the best of times, but at the end of the project I felt like a crippled OAP almost unable to rise out of my work seat. I was bent over forwards, unable to straighten out my hips to stand up right. The flexor muscles were like concrete with knots in places.

I started to workout again, trying to continue where I had left off doing laps around an athletics track at a moderate pace. All of a sudden, a muscle knot caught and pinched a major nerve, causing my leg to collapse and me to fall flat on my face on the track. This happened twice, forcing me to give up on the effort for the day and retreat back to the stands for some lighter, less risky exercises whilst nursing my pride and dignity.
The most ignominious aspect of the whole experience was the passers by who barely glanced across and then just kept on walking past without blinking an eye. Was this just normal life to them, or, did they think I was just another Finnish drunk they should ignore, snow and sub-zero temperatures regardless!?

The Break Out
I realised then and there that the work project had taken it's toll on me much more than I had realised and I needed some serious remedial work. Recovery didn't happen in a high-tech gym; it started in my bed, on my sofa, and during incidental moments throughout the day.
I created a plan and got started the next day with some specially designed loosening and stretching exercises that I could do on the bed before I even got up inthe mornings, more dynamic ones during the day and a final set of sofa stretches in the evening before bed. Other more incidental muscle activation and strengthening exercises were done any time the opportunity or impulse took me during the day time using some NLP crafted prompting techniques to reinforce my motivation and remove my excuses.
As my feeling improved and motivation increased as the time approached to start practising and coaching my hobbies again (Parkour & Self-defence) I started to pick up the volume, load and pace with more conecntrated workouts. It took me about 3 months to feel human again and another 3 months to feel like I could fully perform and function in my hobbies again.
This was about the same length of time it took me to recover from the last time a stained/pulled my groin muscles as a young man, but this time I was already in my fifties when everyone kept telling my I should be taking it easy, slowing down and behaving like a normal invalid of my age. It is a fate I have never accepted, and never will. There are people in their 80's with superb physiques from body building, fitness & flexibility so I knew this is not inevitable nor necessary. Only the method and schedule may need to be adapted to accommodate not so much my age, as my life style and circumstances. The demands of family life being the father of 3 kids gave me as little quarter as working life does.
Yet, slowly but surely, I did recover and regained my capability to perform Parkour and martial arts to a good standard and continue to do so to this day. Consistency matters, but so too does adaptability and flexibility in your approach to align with your energy levels and the demands of daily life. Its all in the Mind SeTs!

The Human Element in a Digital Age
While many turn to apps, research shows that combined human and AI coaching resulted in 74% more weight loss than AI fitness programmes alone. We provide "Accountability-as-a-Service," bridging the digital divide with 24/7 community support and expert video analysis for real-time feedback.
Our methodology, known as the "Human Multi-Gym," uses people as equipment to foster trust and communication. For businesses, this isn't just a wellness perk—it’s a strategic investment that has been shown to reduce absenteeism by a staggering 80%.
This is the expertise and personal experience we use to create innovative fitness programmes that we now offer to you. If I could do it at my tender age, so can you!
